On Thursday, September 9, Bangladesh selectors announced the 15-man squad for next month’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The World Cup is very near and will commence just after the conclusion of IPL in the month of October. Some nation have already announced their squad and the rest will confirm their squads soon. India also confirmed their T20 World Cup squad yesterday.
Mahmudullah will lead the Bangladesh’s team in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2021. There were no real surprises in the 15-member squad announced on Thursday. Bangladesh will go into the tournament with high confidence. In the past months, they have defeated both Australia and New Zealand in historic series wins.
Bangladesh are currently in Group B alongside Oman, Papua New Guinea and Scotland. They need to secure a top two finish in their group if they want to qualify for the Super 12 stage. They will play against Scotland in their first fixture on October 17 – the opening day of the tournament.
Bangladesh’s veteran opener Tamim Iqbal decided to sit out of the tournament to give the next generation the chance to shine. Tamim was the top run-scorer (295 at 73.75) in the 2016 edition.
