Tymal Mills is the only surprising name in the list. His last appearance for England came in February 2017 in a T20I against India in Bengaluru. His performances in the T20 Blast and The Hundred this season had cemented his position in the side. His pace will help England to overcome the absence of Jofra Archer, who has been sidelined for the rest of the year with an elbow injury.
Ben Stokes is big name missing from the squad of England. However, it was the decision of the cricketer himself. Stokes is on an indefinite break from cricket and prioritise his mental wellbeing.
Chris Woakes has made a return to T20I cricket after a gap of more than five years earlier this summer.
Joe Root was also not included in England’s squad for ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021. He is the captain of England Test team and has been performing consistently good for the side. However, his absence from the squad is not surprising because he has not been a part of England’s T20 team for a long time.
England were the the runners-up of the 2016 men’s T20 World Cup. They were defeated in the finals by West Indies. They will begin their campaign against defending champions West Indies on 23 October.
