In the beginning, it was looking like the international break came at the perfect time for United players to take another step closer towards a return from injury. Players like Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford might get advantage of this international break. However, this international break have handed the Reds an additional blow in the form of Raphael Varane’s injury. He was forced to be substituted through injury during the first half of UEFA Nations League final.
Raphael Varane Injury Update
In the final match between Spain and France, Varane was substituted after he sat down on the turf and needed treatment on the pitch. The issue is not clear yet but it has something to do with his leg as the defender was holding his leg. Varane was also seen sitting with an ice pack on his groin for the rest of the match at the bench. In the beginning, it didn’t seemed like the issue is so big because Varane walked off the pitch himself and did not appear to be limping. However, on October 12, Manchester United released an official update on Raphael Varane after the defender was injured while on international duty with France.
The statement reads:
“Raphael Varane sustained a groin muscle injury in the UEFA Nations League final and has commenced rehabilitation at the club.
“He will be out for a few weeks.”
Harry Maguire Injury Update
Manchester United captain Harry Maguire sustained an injury in the defeat against Aston Villa. Due to a calf problem he was forced to miss the fixtures against Villarreal and Everton. Harry Maguire also ruled out of the England squad of World Cup qualifiers. Solskjaer has not been able to provide a recent update on the United skipper. From sources it has been found that Maguire will miss the entire month of October due to injury. He is expected to return to action in early November or in the last week of October.
The schedule of October is very difficult for United as they face the likes of Liverpool, Leicester, and Tottenham in the Premier League.
United have not won any of their three clashes with the Foxes last season and in the absence of their two regular centre backs, it will be even more difficult for them. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is already without captain Harry Maguire and with the injury of Raphael Varane, we can witness the new combination of Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in the defence.
