Pat Cummins was  KKR’s most expensive recruit. He was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for a whopping 15.5 crores in IPL 2020 and since then, he has been the backbone of the bowling department of the franchise. Cummins is not just a bowler, he has been contributing with the bat as well. However, the talented Australian pacer has decided to pull of the second leg of IPL 2021 as his wife is pregnant and is due to give birth in around September or October. Cummins confirmed that he will not be available for IPL 2021 second phase in one of the Q&A sessions of his official YouTube channel in August.

Tim Southee has played in the IPL for six consecutive years but he went unsold in the 2020 auction. Southee played last in IPL for RCB in 2019. He finished that edition with an economy rate of 13 in the three games that he played. Tim Southee had previously played for Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). In 40 IPL games, he has picked 28 wickets at an economy rate of 8.47.

Brendon McCullum, Head Coach of KKR said the following on replacement of Pat Cummins with Tim Southee, “We are delighted to have Southee in our ranks. He is a proven match-winner and a welcome addition to the already strong pace attack of KKR. With Cummins being unavailable we wanted to add experience and leadership to our bowling group and Southee is the ideal man for the job.”
