Karim Benzema wins the 2021/22 UEFA Men's Player of the Year

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has won the 2022 UEFA Player of the Year award after his phenomenal 2021-2022 season.

He was crowned as the winner during the 2022/23 UEFA Champions League group stage draw ceremony in Istanbul on Thursday 25 August.

Karim Benzema captained Real Madrid to Champions League success last season under Carlo Ancelotti.

Benzema scored 15 goals and delivered 1 assist in the 12 matches he played for Madrid during the UCL 2021-2022.

Benzema was one of three shortlisted nominees alongside Thibaut Courtois and Kevin de Bruyne.

The Frenchman scored a total of 44 goals for Real Madrid, emerging as the top scorer for Los Blancos in both the UEFA Champions League and the Spanish La Liga.

Jorginho won the 2020/21 UEFA Men's Player of the Year award last year.

Real Madrid's Carlo Ancelotti has been named UEFA Men's Coach of the Year for 2021/22.
