Another main thing about this series is that Indian Team will play under a whole new leadership. Rahul Dravid is the new coach of team India. Virat Kohli has also announced that this T20 World Cup will be his last tournament as the captain. The new captain of Indian Team for the limited overs has not yet been announced. Who will lead Team India in the upcoming series vs New Zealand?
Veteran opener and present Vice-Captain of the team, Rohit Sharma is likely to lead Team India in the T20I series against New Zealand. After the decision of Virat Kohli to step down from the captaincy, his deputy Rohit Sharma has emerged as the first choice to lead team India in the upcoming series. India will host New Zealand for a bilateral T20I series from November 17th to November 21 this year.
It has been reported that after playing continuously for a long time, many regular players will be rested for this series. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Hardik Pandya are expected to get dropped while Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad are in contention for the T20Is.
There is another twist in this situation also. Taking into consideration the fatigue of the players due to the bubble life, some senior players will be rested for the T20I series against New Zealand. Rohit Sharma has been playing for a long time without any break. So it might be the case that along with Virat Kohli, Rohit may also get a rest.
In that situation, it is likely that KL Rahul could be given the responsibility of leading the team against New Zealand. Rahul is the front runner for the job because he is an integral part of the team’s T20 structure.
New Zealand will play three T20Is and two Test matches.
