Cricket South Africa has announced its squad for T20 World Cup 2022. Temba Bavuma will lead the 15-member squad for the tournament scheduled in Australia. It will be his second T20 World Cup in a row as the captain. Most of the players from the legendary era of South Africa have either retired or are not a part of the squad. Fans will not be able to see the veteran players like AB De Villiers, Faf Du Plessis, Imran Tahir, Chris Morris in the upcoming World Cup. There was a time when the above mentioned names were regarded as the best in their respective fields. However, they fail to get a place now in the squad. One such example is Chris Morris. In the auctions of IPL 2021, the all-rounder from South Africa became the most expensive player in the history of the Indian Premier League after he was bought for Rs 16.25 crore by Rajasthan Royals. But now he do not even get a place in the playing 11 of the team.  Let’s see Why Chris Morris is not in South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2022 Squad?

Why Chris Morris is not playing in T20 World Cup 2022?

South Africa all-rounder Chris Morris is not playing in T20 World Cup 2022 because in January 2022, he has already taken retirement from all forms of cricket. Even he had not taken retirement, Morris would not get a place in this squad. He was also excluded from South Africa’s squad for T20 World Cup 2021. Morris represented South Africa in four Tests, 42 ODIs and 23 T20 Internationals. He had not impressed much for South Africa but he was definitely a superstar in the franchise cricket.

Why Chris Morris is not in South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2021 Squad?

The reason behind Chris Morris’ non-selection as revealed by the selectors is that the all-rounder hasn’t even made himself available for international cricket.

The CSA gave the following explanation on the omission of Chris Morris from the squad.

“Outside that Chris made himself unavailable. Most of our engagements with Chris through his agent has said that he is unavailable for international cricket.”

Chris Morris last played for South Africa at the 2019 Cricket World Cup and his last appearance in a T20 International was in March 2019 against Sri Lanka. After last representing the country in March 2019, Chris Morris had made himself unavailable to play for South Africa. However, he will play for Rajasthan Royals in the upcoming season of Indian Premier League.

After missing from the South Africa’s T20 squad, Chris Morris said that:

“There are no hard feelings. I was pissed off for a few months, but I got over it. Now I’m just looking forward to watching my mates perform well in the World Cup, I genuinely believe South Africa has a good chance of winning it.”
