Coach Luis Enrique Martinez has announced the Spain’s squad for the upcoming matches of UEFA Nations League 2022 in the month of September. Spain have to play its last two matches of group stage against Switzerland and Portugal. There have been some controversial inclusions as well as exclusions in the Spain Squad for Nations League. The most surprising takeaway in this squad were the selections of Nico Williams and Borja Iglesias. Luis Enrique did not included the likes of Iago Aspas, Sergio Canales and Thiago Alcantara in his squad. The manager chose to stick with an unchanged squad. In choosing the current team, the former Barcelona coach has overlooked a few big names. Sergio Ramos, who has been a mainstay in the defence of La Roja has not been included in Spain Squad. Here’s why Why Sergio Ramos is not playing for Spain in UEFA Nations League 2022.
Sergio Ramos has made 180 appearances for Spanish National Team. He won a World Cup and two European championships with Spain. However, Ramos will not be there to join his teammates in their quest for a UEFA Nations League title.
Why Sergio Ramos is not playing for Spain ?
In the beginning, Sergio Ramos was excluded form Spain squad due to injuries and inactivity. He also failed to get a place in Spain’s squad for Euro 2022. However, that’s not the case now. The playing time of Sergio Ramos in PSG has increased a lot. He has played in most of the games for the French club in this season and also looks in fine touch.
The selections of Luis Enriqure have always been quite controversial. He has been accused of an anti-Madrid bias in his selections. Enrique is inclined towards selecting those players who fit the profile and needs of his system. After his continuous omission from the Spain’s squad, it seems like that Sergio Ramos will also not get a place in Spain’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
