The neigbours have done really well in the shortest format of cricket and therefore they are among the potential candidates to win the T20 World Cup this year. They also reached the final of Asia Cup 2022 where they were defeated by Sri Lanka. Several expected names have failed to get a spot in the Pakistan squad for T20 World Cup 2022. The most notable omission from the Pakistan’s squad is of explosive batsman Fakhar Zaman. Fans expected to see his name in the squad because he is a regular starter of the team. Fakhar Zaman has been named as one of the three travelling reserves in Pakistan’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 squad. Left-handed Shan Masood has replaced him in the main squad. He has been called up to the T20I squad for the first time. It is quite shocking to know that Fakhar Zaman only managed to make the reserves group.
Zaman was in the playing 11 of the team that played in the Asia Cup final in Dubai. The reason behind his non-selection in Pakistan’s main squad for T20 World Cup 2022 is that he had suffered an injury to his right knee in the final against Sri Lanka.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chief, Muhammad Wasim said that Fakhar Zaman has been given a rest from the T20I series against England in order to give him time to recover from the knee injury. In the final of Asia Cup 2022 against Sri Lanka, Fakhar Zaman got himself injured while fielding.
Fakhar Zaman had a very poor campaign in Asia Cup 2022 as he managed to score only 96 runs in six innings at the Asia Cup. He scored a half-century in the tournament but it was against Hong Kong during a group match. He registered scores of 10, 53, 15, 5, 13 and 0 in the tournament. In the final match, Fakhar Zaman was dismissed for a first-ball duck.
