The Indian Cricket Team suffered a heartbreaking loss in the final of ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Now, India’s focus shifts towards the World Test Championship as well as the upcoming T20 World Cup. The T20 and Test series against South Africa is very important for both these ICC tournaments. However, there have been some issues with India’s captain. Three different captains will be leading India in its tour to South Africa. A separate skipper has been appointed for each of the three formats respectively. Rohit Sharma was appointed as India’s white-ball captain in December 2021 after the conclusion of T20 World Cup 2021. He was named full-time captain in the red-ball format in February 2022. However, he has opted for rest from white ball cricket. Therefore, in his absence, somebody else will lead the team in ODI and T20.

Suryakumar Yadav has been appointed as the captain for T20 series against South Africa. India won the recent T20 series against Australia under the captaincy of SKY. There are possibilities that Rohit Sharma might take a permanent break from T20Is and in that case Surykumar Yadav would be the first option for captain’s position.

KL Rahul will lead the ODI squad against South Africa in the absence of regular skipper Rohit Sharma. It will be quite difficult for him, as most of the regular players have been rested.
