The 2022 edition of IPL is just about to start. Prior to it, IPL 2022 Mega auction were held in Bangalore and it concluded successfully. All the 10 teams have build up their final squads for the upcoming seasons. In this article we will talk about Mumbai Indians Team Analysis and Updates.
MI IPL 2022 Mega Auction Review
Mumbai Indians decided to retain their most successful batsmen from the past seasons. They retained their skipper Rohit Sharma along with lethal bowler Jasprit Bumrah, dynamic Suryakumar Yadav & veteran all-rounder Kieron Pollard. Their most expensive buy at the auction was Ishan Kishan who also end up as the most expensive buy of the auction. MI’s most expensive buys at the IPL 2022 Mega Auction were Ishan Kishan (INR 15.25 crore), Tim David (INR 8.25 crore) and Jofra Archer (INR 8 crore).
Apart from the above signings, South Africa’s U-19 star Dewald Bravis for Rs. 3 crore was also an interesting one. MI have taken a huge risk at the auction by picking Jofra Archer for Rs. 8 crore. He will not be available for selection this season so it will be exciting to see if this risk pays or not. Mumbai Indians have always believed in the philosophy of building talent rather than buying it. They stuck to it this time as well.

IPL 2022 : Mumbai Indians Team Analysis
MI 2022 Squad : Batsmen
The biggest strength for MI is their stable batting. They have players of proven quality in their squad for a long time. The MI veterans can easily take the responsibility of batting sector so that the newcomers can easily blend into the MI way of doing things. Sharma, Kishan and Surya comprise a batting order that no one would like to mess with it. It will be interesting to see if the young Dewald Brevis will be able to make the jump in the MI playing 11 2022.
MI 2022 Squad : Wicketkeepers
Ishan Kishan emerged as the most expensive player of this year’s auction. His wicket-keeping skills was a major reason behind his increased value. With the departure of Quinton De Cock, Mumbai Indians were in urgent need of a wicket-keeper. Therefore, MI pulled all strings to buy the young wicketkeeper batter. With his talent and goodwill, he will don the gloves and will be a crucial part of Mumbai’s long-term plan.
MI 2022 Squad : All-Rounders
Mumbai Indians always had all-rounders who lend great balance to the squad regardless of the conditions. But this time situation has changed. MI went big for Tim David, as they see a potential all-rounder in him. He will look upon to fill the finisher’s slot. MI lost their two regular all-rounders Krunal Pandya and Hardik Pandya.
Pollard has been a dangerous finisher but in the past few seasons, he has slowed down a little bit. It is very hard to replace Hardik Pandya. It will be interesting to see whether things work out for Tim David on Indian pitches as well.
MI 2022 Squad : Bowlers
As usual, Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the bowling lineup of Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022. It will be exciting to see if Jaydev Unadkat and Tymal Mills will be able to give Jasprit Bumrah the support in the absence of Trent Boult.
Bumrah and Tymal Mills are very good death-over bowlers. The management is likely to give Unadkat the duty to take early wickets in the innings as Boult used to do.
MI have purchased Jofra Archer for ₹8 crore but he will not be available for IPL 2022. Unadkat has brought in as a replacement for Boult. But he lacks the death-overs skills of the New Zealand pacer.
MI IPL 2022 Team Review
The current squad of Mumbai Indians does not look as strong on paper in comparison to their previous squads.. This time, MI has a lack of match-winners in their squad, at least on paper. They have lost its key players at the auction. Quinton De Kock, Hardik Pandya, Krunal Pandya, Rahul Chahal and Trent Boult were all regular starters and match winners.
There are some clear gaps in MI 2022 squad but the five-time champions still got a balanced squad to compete for the trophy. This combination of senior players and inexperienced youngsters will probably deliver the favorable results in IPL 2022.
