In the Fifa World Cup 2022 Qualifier match between Portugal and Ireland, Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 110th and 111th international goals for Portugal. By scoring these goals, Cristiano Ronaldo surpassed Iran’s Ali Daei to become the leading goal-scorer in international football in the world. Ronaldo showed a clutch performance after he was being trolled in the stadium by Ireland fans. He showed the world who the real goat is.
Ronaldo was previously level on 109 goals with Iran’s Ali Daei. Daei’s record has stood since his retirement in 2006, having broken the previous record held by Ferenc Puskas in 2003. Cristiano Ronaldo has taken 180 matches to get to the tally of 110 goals. Ali Daei had scored 109 goals in 149 appearances for the national side.
Portugal vs Ireland Highlights
Portgal got a penalty in the 13th minute of the match when Bruno Fernandes was fould inside the box. Captain Ronaldo took the penalty and failed to convert it into a goal.
The Republic of Ireland outscored their opponents in the first half and went ahead on the stroke of half-time after Egan scored a header for Ireland.
In the second half of the game, the world witnessed the legacy of Cristiano Ronaldo.
They were two almost identical goals too, with firing in the first cross which was nodded home by the Portugal captain (89) to break Ali Daei’s record. Then, with the last kick of the game,to take his tally to 111 international goals.
Ronaldo scored an equaliser in the 88th minute of the match. Goncalo Guedes send a cross to his captain in the box, which he converted perfectly. The second goal was almost indentical. Joao Mario sent in a similar ball, which Ronaldo (90+6) again headed past Gavin Bazunu to win the game. The Manchester United star leaped high and buried a header into the net to silence his haters.
This is the first of three international games for Ronaldo over the break, with away matches upcoming against Qatar, and then Azerbaijan.
