It was quite unfortunate for Ishan Kishan to be unable to find a place in the Indian Squad. He was a crucial part in the last edition of T20 World Cup in UAE. However, he did not perform up to his expectations in that tournament. This time, the selectors did not pick any backup openers in the 15-member squad. Therefore, there was no place for Ishan Kishan.

Why Ishan Kishan is not selected in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022?
Ishan Kishan has been overlooked for the Asia Cup 2022 owing to Virat Kohli and KL Rahul’s return to the Indian side. The Mumbai Indians opener played his last T20I against West Indies, where he scored 11 off 13 deliveries. Ishan has displayed consistency in 2022. In the beginning, it was being assumed that the selectors are seeing Ishan as the opener of the team. In 2022, he is India’s second highest-run scorer in the shortest format with 430 runs at an average of 30.71. Kishan has smashed three half-centuries with a best individual score of 89. Even after all of this, he was not even named in the standby players list which included Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar.
The reason behind his omission is quite clear. The comeback of KL Rahul in the team is the reason why Ishan Kishan is not included in India’s squad for Asia Cup 2022. KL is the number one contender for the opening spot alongside skipper Rohit Sharma. Another reason is that the squad is of only 15 players. It was quite clear that Ishan Kishan will not get a chance in the playing XI, so there was no point in keeping him on the bench.
However, even after this major setback, the youngster didn’t lose hope and gave a positive statement:
“I feel that what selectors do is fair. They put a lot of thought while selecting players as to who should be given the opportunity and where. It is a positive for me because if I am not selected, I will work harder and score more runs. When selectors will have confidence in me, they will obviously keep me in the team.” Ishan Kishan said in an interview.
