As expected, there were plenty of surprises in the squad announced by the selectors. There were some surprises inclusions as well as some exclusions. Even after a good IPL, Prithvi Shaw is not included in the squad. His omission from the squad is a great setback for his fans. Although, his name was not expected by experts in the squad but still his fans might want to know why Prithvi Shaw is not selected in India’s squad for World Cup 2023?
Why Prithvi Shaw is not selected in India’s squad for World Cup 2023?
The young Delhi Capitals opener didn’t get a place in the World Cup squad because he was not even in the contention list for selectors. He is out of Indian squad for a long time. There are already plenty of opening options for team India.
The opener of Delhi Capitals, Prithvi Shaw failed to get a place in the Indian squad for T20 series against SA. Shaw has made a comeback after his failure in Australia. He has been excellent for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2022. Although Shaw was not much in contention for selectors but he still had an outside chance considering his good form.
Prithvi Shaw was not selected in India’s Squad because there are plenty of options at the opening spot. The likes of KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli are already in the team as openers. Therefore, there was hardly any chance for Prithvi Shaw to make a cut in the squad. Even if the selectors decided to pick another backup opener then they would have gone for veteran Shikhar Dhawan.
The strike rate of Shaw has taken a huge step forward in IPL 2021. He has scored 308 runs from 8 innings at a strike rate above 166 in the first phase of IPL 2021. However, he will have to wait to get an entry in the Indian squad. Shaw’s big-hitting skills and his aggressive attitude against the bowlers could have helped India in the big tournament. Prithvi Shaw also performed good in the Sri Lanka tour. The right-handed batsman scored 43 and 49 in the 1st and 3rd ODI.
