Prithvi Shaw was not selected in India’s Squad because there are plenty of options at the opening spot. The likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli are already in the team as openers. Therefore, there was hardly any chance for Prithvi Shaw to make a cut in the squad. Even if the selectors decided to pick another backup opener then they would have gone for KL Rahul or Shubman Gill.

The strike rate of Shaw has taken a huge step forward in IPL 2021. He has scored 308 runs from 8 innings at a strike rate above 166 in the first phase of IPL 2021. However, he will have to wait to get an entry in the Indian squad. Shaw’s big-hitting skills and his aggressive attitude against the bowlers could have helped India in the big tournament. Prithvi Shaw also performed good in the Sri Lanka tour. The right-handed batsman scored 43 and 49 in the 1st and 3rd ODI.
