Who will be the new manager of Manchester United?
However, United have been linked with quite a few names. In this article, we will take a look at five favorites to take the charge from Ralf Rangnick as Manchester United manager. Let’s see who will be the new manager of Manchester United:
Erik ten Hag
According to the reports, Manchester United has already made a deal with current Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag as next permanent Manchester United manager.
Erik Ten Hag has emerged as a popular name whenever a vacancy comes up around Europe and the current Ajax manager is certainly an intriguing candidate for the job at Manchester United. In three and a half years as the manager of the Dutch outfit, Ten Hag has won two league titles and two KNVB Cups.. He came to limelight when he guide Ajax to the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2019, losing to Pochettino’s Spurs.
Ten Hag is a true disciple of the game and the Red Devils’ fans would love to see their team replicate the famous Ajax way of playing. However, it would be exciting to see whether he apply it to United or not. Ten Hag is contracted to Ajax until 2023 but is likely to be easier to extract from his position than Pochettino or Rodgers.
Ten Hag has emerged as the candidate for this positon because he is the one who can bring out the best in players like Donny van de Beek as they have worked together at Ajax. Manchester United have a deep squad with plenty of talented youngsters and the Ajax coach has a reputation for improving young players.
However, it is also true that Ten Hag is extremely unlikely to leave Ajax in the middle of the season.
Roberto Martinez has done an excellent job with the Belgian national side. He has been able to keep Belgium at the number one spot for a long time. However, he has yet to win a single major international tournament with Belgium. This squad is clearly Belgium’s golden generation and therefore the whole credit cannot be given to the manager alone. So in the absence of a trophy, it is still to decide whether he is an exceptional coach.
Martinez did a great job in his domestic career when it comes to management of clubs. He transformed Swansea City into promotion contenders from a place of obscurity. He was also able to win FA Cup with Wigan which is a notable and famous achievement. But seeing Martinez as Manchester United’s new manager is quite difficult because the 2022 FIFA World Cup is right around the corner, and it is unlikely that Martinez will ignore Belgium at this moment.
Zidane has managed only Real Madrid in his managerial career but he achieved in those two spells is enough for his glowing CV. He won three successive Champions League wins with Real Madrid as well as two league titles. It is true that United are nowhere near to winning the Champions League at the moment but a manager like Zidane would certainly give the players a boost to fight.
Another advantage for Zidane is that he has already worker with Varane and Ronaldo at Real Madrid. They were his crucial players in his spell. He has a great relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane well from his time at Real. He also wanted to bring Paul Pogba to Real Madrid on several occasions. United’s current squad is just perfect for him and there will be no need for expensive additions, except in defence.
The point of concern is that Zidane has only coached in Spain, so it would be a completely new challenge for him to manage in the Premier League. Another criticism of him was that he never developed young academy graduates at Real Madrid while United has always taken care of its youngster.
Brendan Rogers has earned the respect in the Premier League. He was the man who took Liverpool to the brink of the title in 2014. He has also won plenty of silverware in Scotland with Celtic and has done a fine job at Leicester. His win against Barcelona in Champions League is very famous. The 48-year-old is known for innovation in coaching methods and tactics.
It’s true that it will take a little time to bring improvement in United. Brendan Rodgers loves the high press, he loves the high energy, working off the ball, he loves that. He is a type of manager who will eradicate the players that are not fitting into that formation or system. Rodgers has shown in the past he’s ready to make big decisions for the good of the team as a whole.
In 2019, Pochettino was linked with United and was seen as potential permanent successor to Jose Mourinho until United made Solskjaer’s interim role permanent. His greatest achievement is that he has guide Tottenham to the Champions League final. At that time, hee was seen as the perfect candidate to restore United after an end to Mourinho’s tenure.
Although, there are very less chances of him being appointed the manager of Manchester United because he is currently contracted with PSG and why would he want to leave one of Europe’s foremost teams right now.
