Coach Luis Enrique Martinez has announced the Spain’s squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. The Manchester United goalkeeper failed to get a place in the provisional squad of 55 players for the 2022 World Cup. There have been some controversial inclusions as well as exclusions in the Spain Squad for World Cup 2022. In choosing the current team, the former Barcelona coach has overlooked one of the best goalkeepers. De Gea, who was once a mainstay in the goal of La Roja has not been included in Spain Squad. Here’s why David De Gea is not selected in Spain World Cup 2022 Squad?
Despite featuring in all of United’s games so far this season, early suggestions from Spain state that he won’t be on the plane to Qatar. De Gea has not featured in a Spain match since October 2020. The Spaniard has represented his national team in 45 international matches.
It is quite shocking because De Gea has featured in all of United’s games so far this season. Luis Enrique preferred a few other Premier League goalkeepers over De Gea. He last played for Spain in October 2020.
Why David De Gea is not selected in Spain World Cup 2022 Squad?
The reason behind David De Gea’s omission from the Spain’s World Cup squad is that he is not in the plans of Luis Enrique. The manager once clarified that he has already selected his three goalkeepers and he does not has any problem with any of them playing. Robert Sanchez and Unai Simon are being preferred by the coach over him.
The selections of Luis Enrique have always been quite controversial. He has been accused of an anti-Madrid bias in his selections. He also did not select veteran defender Sergio Ramos in the squad for Nations League. Enrique is inclined towards selecting those players who fit the profile and needs of his system. After his continuous omission from the Spain’s squad, it seems like that De Gea will also not get a place in Spain’s further squad for the upcoming tournaments.
